If you've only budgeted a day or two beyond the festival, here's where to spend it.
1. Lac Rose
The Pink Lake gets its color from a rare algae and salt combination — best visited in the dry season when the color is most vivid, roughly an hour outside the city.
2. Gorée Island
A short ferry ride and a heavy, essential piece of history. Set aside a half-day.
3. The African Renaissance Monument
Taller than the Statue of Liberty and visible from much of the city — worth the climb for the view alone.
4. Sandaga Market
Dakar's largest market is chaotic in the best way — fabric, spices, and genuinely good people-watching.
5. Yoff Beach
Skip the more touristy stretches and head to Yoff for a beach afternoon that feels like a local neighborhood, not a resort.
