Rwanda rarely tops anyone's first list of African destinations. It should. Kigali is one of the cleanest, safest, and most walkable capital cities on the continent, and its nightlife scene is growing fast.
A City Unlike Any Other
Kigali's hills, order, and greenery surprise most first-time visitors. The city has a strict no-plastic-bag policy and a genuinely spotless reputation — bring good walking shoes, because you'll want to explore on foot.
Getting Around
Moto-taxis are the fastest and cheapest way to get around the city, though ride-hailing apps also operate in Kigali if you'd rather book ahead.
Where AfroFuture Meets Kigali Nightlife
Amapiano and Brunch events have found a natural home in Kigali's rooftop bar scene, particularly around Kimihurura and Kacyiru. Expect daytime sets that run well into the evening.
Beyond the City
If your schedule allows, Volcanoes National Park is a two-hour drive and home to Rwanda's mountain gorillas — a once-in-a-lifetime add-on if you can extend your trip by even a day or two.
